Preview:
  • Bishop Verot has is playing their best basketball of the season at the right time of the year.  Led by senior guard Jacquard Hagan, who is playing as good as anyone as of late, the Vikings took down Dunbar in the district final and is hoping to lead his squad back to the Final Four for only the second time in school history and the first time any Lee County team has done it in back to back seasons.  They will have to get past a scrappy Booker squad first though.  The Tornadoes, led by junior guard Stone Hollaway, did what they had to do to reach the Regional playoffs for the first time since they won the 4A state title in 2006.  It is rare, and we do not have the official records to know for sure, but this may be the first time ever that two SWFL coaches with Final Four appearances will meet in the Regional Quarterfinals.  Booker will lean heavily on Hollaway who is one of the best junior scoring guards in the area.  They will need senior Brandon Fox and sophomore Jamal Gaines to come up big as well.  Fox has shown he can, as he scored a game-high 16 points on 4 of 6 treys in the district final loss to Southeast.  For Verot, Hagan is putting up big time numbers lately.  The senior is averaging 23 points and 7 rebounds a game over the last 6 games, while he has also hit 23 of 41 treys in that same span.  Freshman wing Quinten Payne (12.6 ppg), junior Nate Howard (10.2 ppg), and senior Bobby Thomas (7.8 ppg) have been his partners in crime.

Prediction:
  • Bishop Verot (+10)
