Preview:
  • Fort Myers comes in as the undisputed best team in SWFL for 2009-10 and have not lost to a local opponent all season and the closest any local squad has came to defeating them was in their 10 point win over rival Bishop Verot.  Golden Gate on the other hand has struggled over the past few weeks to maintain their consistency winning games.  The Titans want to score, but it will be a bit tougher to get into their transition game because Fort Myers does not allow too many easy rebounds or breakaways thanks to their overall size and length from top to bottom.  The Green Wave will also use their full court pressure to slow down Golden Gate throughout the game and a big key will be whether the Titan guards can take care of the ball.  However, the positive for the Titans is that they are very athletic and can compete with the Green Wave in that aspect.  Their defense will be put to the test as Fort Myers is very disciplined offensively and is always looking to crash the glass for second chance points.  Golden Gate will be led by junior wing Jarvis Davis and senior guard Burt Boileau.  The tandem have been the most consistent scorers throughout the season for the Titans, but they will be flanked by a host of able scorers in seniors Jacquai James, Devin Woods, and will look for senior Reuben Riffin and sophomore Frantz Dorvil to give them a presence inside.  The Green Wave have the luxury of a very balanced lineup with a host of guys who can all score, rebound, and play tough defense.  Senior guard Terran "Buddy" McClendon has played at a very high level all season long, while senior forward Tyler Manning stepped up big on the offensive end as well as the boards in the district tournament.  Junior guard Evin Graham is still the key for the Wave, running the offense and is the team's leading scorer as well.  This could be the most entertaining matchup of two local teams in the Quarterfinals or it could be one sided.  The latter possibility depends on if the Titans bring their defense and if they can take care of the ball, while still trying to get out in transition.

Prediction:
  • Fort Myers (+8)
