Preview:
  • Seacrest made quick work of Canterbury in the Quarterfinals but now run's into a much stiffer test in Cambridge Christian.  The Lancers have size and some very good shooters that could give the Stingrays problems.  Most intriguing for the Lancers is 6'8 junior forward Cameron Brown.  Brown has put up outstanding stats all year long, including 21 points and 14 rebounds against a familiar local team in Bradenton Christian earlier this season.  Alongside Brown is 6'4 senior forward Luke Rogers, who is averaging 14 points of his own this season.  Seacrest will definitely have to always keep an eye on 6'2 senior guard Josh Metcalf, as he has hit 86 treys this season and if shooting an impressive 41% from behind the arc.  On the other side, Seacrest brings a couple of top notch athletes to the table.  Senior guard Brunes Charles (18.3 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 4.8 apg, 3.2 spg) is one of the best athletes in the state and will look to put pressure on the Lancers' transition and interior defense with his ability to attack the basket with authority.  If the Lancers collapse on Charles, look for him to kick it out to senior Bond Roth at the three-point line.  Roth has hit 64 treys this season.  Inside for the Stingrays is 6'5 eighth grader Jeff Merton.  Merton has put up gawdy numbers this season for such a youngster, averaging 14.3 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2 blocks per game, while shooting 64% from the field.  The young big guy has shown that he is not afraid of going at it with his elders, as evident by his 19 points and 19 rebounds earlier this season against Community School of Naples' 6'6 senior Danny Fleming.  Whichever team comes out of this one has a stiff test ahead of them, but this one should be an interesting game and test both coaches on their ability to take advantage of mismatches on their ends of the court.

Prediction:
  • Seacrest (+6)
