Preview:
- These two teams have to be tired of seeing each other at this point, with this being their fourth meeting of the season, but none have been more important than this one will be. This time, whoever loses, goes home. Dunbar won the first matchup handily, but Verot has won the last two, including a 55-47 win in the 3A-12 title game. Verot has been playing their best basketball of the season as of late. However, they had a slight scare against a young Booker team in the Regional Quarterfinals but sophomore guard Mark Wagner came up huge in the fourth quarter of that win, hitting 3 of his 4 treys in the final stanza. Senior guard Jacquard Hagan continues to play lights out basketball, scoring 20 points against Booker. On the other side, Dunbar hopes to use their upset win over Bradenton Southeast last week as a springboard to get them back on track. Senior forward David Paulk has been hampered all season by injuries, but showed a glimpse of his old self against Southeast scoring 15 points and was a force to be reckoned with inside. If Paulk can score consistently inside again, that would spell trouble potentially for Verot, as their biggest weakness has been their lack of interior size. Senior guards Joel German and Troy Simmons also were huge in the 13-point win over Southeast, with both scoring more than 15 points and did so against some solid guards for the Seminoles. This should be maybe the best matchup for local teams still alive, simply because of the rivalry that already exists.
