Preview:
- Community School comes into the semifinals following a convincing win over Admiral Farragut, while Shorecrest and sophomore Luke Blume shot their way past St. John Neumann. Blume knocked down 6 treys in the win, and scored an impressive 20 of his game-high 25 points in the first quarter alone. He got big help from fellow guard Ricky Quiroz as well as 6'2 forward Justin Waters. Quiroz scored 19 in the quarterfinals, while Waters scored 16 using a variety of high post moves to drive past defenders and score. Community School will of course be led by the SWFL preseason POY and postseason POY candidate Mitch Woods. Woods and the Seahawks are at their best when the big senior point guard is controlling the game and getting everyone involved. Although he has shown he can score when he wants for the most part, it is when Danny Fleming, Keny Coyne, and junior Liam Bressler get involved consistently that they are tough to beat. Fleming has had a great year thus far, but will need to come up big on both ends of the court and slow down Waters from doing what he did against Neumann. Coyne is at his best when spotting up on the perimeter and will need to knock down some open jumpers to help the cause. Woods is hoping to take this bunch back to the Final Four, which he helped accomplish during his sophomore season alongside Kyle Petersen (Univ. of Akron). This will be another big hurdle to jump if he is to accomplish that goal.
