We continue our series of travel team previews by taking a look SWFL Select 16U group. It’s a squad that club contact Aaron Seybert feels has great potential.
“This group isn’t known right now but if they perform the way we expect them to, it won’t take long”, says Seybert. “It’s a group of kids that have a solid base of basketball skills as well as abundant athleticism.”
Inside, the team will feature 6’5 BF Chris Byler of North Port (FL) HS and 6’3 BF 2012 Danny Dillard, also of North Port. They will be joined by 6’4 WF Kent Coyne of Naples (FL) Community School, and 6’4 WF Jarvis Davis of Naples (FL) Golden Gate.
“Byler has good length, scores inside, and is a hard worker”, says Seybert. “Dillard is very competitive on the blocks, has a good frame, and scores inside. Coyne is a wing who will help inside defensively. He defends well on the blocks, has a good shot, good size, and has a nice upside to his game. Davis is very athletic and long, has a consistent shot from deep, can put the ball on the deck as well to attack the hoop, and will help out inside and out defensively.”
In the backcourt, there is plenty to choose from starting with 6’2 WG Jernell Hughes of Immokalee (FL) HS. Also in the mix will be 6’3 PG/WG Evin Graham of Fort Myers (FL) HS, 6’0 combo guard Frank Gonzalez of Naples (FL) Palmetto Ridge, 5’9 PG Eric Litvin of North Port (FL) HS, 6’1 WG Michael Payne of Naples (FL) Palmetto Ridge, and 5’10 PG D.J. Scott of Charlotte (FL) HS.
“Hughes is a super athletic lefty that is a dynamic scorer with great range on his shot”, says Seybert. “Graham is a high IQ solid all-around player that can score as well as distribute the basketball and uses his length to be a solid defender. Gonzalez has a high hoops IQ also, handles the ball well, and is a very good shooter. Litvin is quick with the ball and runs the team very well. Payne has a lot of intangibles and shoots the ball well. Scott is strong, a good defender, and makes plays once he gets into the lane.”
The team will take on the following tentative schedule:
April 10-12: Disney Easter Classic, Orlando, FL
May 2-3: AAU States, Leesburg, FL
May 22-24: Hoop Mountain Memorial Day Showcase, Orlando, FL
July 13-15: Hoops Festival, Miami, FL
July 22-26: 16U Super Showcase, Orlando, FL
July 26-Aug 1: AAU 17U Nationals, Orlando, FL
