Barron
Collier is having one of the best season's in school history, and the
catalyst for the Cougar's success this season has been 6'4
ultra-talented junior guard Deion Clark. Clark is a do-it-all
athletic wing guard that is starting to turn the corner and grasp just
how much potential he has, and the Cougars' opponents have been on the
tail end of his revelation. However, Clark is not the only player in
the Class of 2012 in Southwest Florida having a solid season and in our
updated class rankings some guys have solidified their spots among the
area's best, while some new guys have also made their way into the mix
with improved play and team success. Coming in at #2, Larry Taylor
from North Port High School has stepped up his game this season, and
has a resume that includes two 27-point performances at the City of
Palms Classic. We've broken down the new top 10 for 2012, while also highlighting some
of the newer guys and guys making a push to move up in the rankings in
the future as well.

Clark Remains Cream of the Crop in Updated Class of 2012 Rankings
Fort Myers, FL-- We hosted our 3rd event over the weekend and the SWFL Hoops Spring Showcase went in line with the previous two events as a success. The goal with the events is to bring together some of Southwest Florida's best boy's hoopers in one location, while giving them an opportunity to be seen by our staff as well as Regional Scouts and college coaches. Southwest Florida tends to be one of the most under-recruited regions in the state and hopefully through these events, continued success by local high school teams, and success by local players on the college level, we can bring more awareness that this area is in fact a small college hotbed for prospects.
On Saturday, there was a solid mix of players in the classes of 2011 thru 2014 going through a long day of skill development drills and competitive evaluation games. The day started with guest speaker Anthony Hargrove of the 2010 Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints, and a member of the Port Charlotte High School Elite 8 basketball team in 2001, who stopped by to talk to the players about his experiences with making the transition from high school to college and the importance of making the right decisions along the way. After some of the area's top high school coaches took the players through full-court and half-court skill development stations, the games got underway. There were a few guys who stood out more than others, but there were plenty of guys who left a mark with Rick Staudt, a scout who covers Florida basketball for Sourcehoops.com and HoopScoopOnline.com, among others. Staudt put together some notes on guys in a recap of what he saw at the Spring Showcase. SWFL Hoops Spring Showcase Recap SWFL Hoops Spring Showcase Recap
