SWFL Hoops: Hello Evin, thank you for sitting down with SWFLHoops.com. I would like to start out asking about the difference, in your opinion, between AAU and HS Basketball.
Evin: I mean obviously the biggest difference is the talent gap. I think that gap makes it so that you never know what to expect when you go out on that court. You play a lot of teams and people you have never seen before and all you know about them is that they are good. The games are also refereed differently. It really changes the pace and flow of the game.
SWFL Hoops: Would you say that it is possible to reach the level of team chemistry with an AAU team as what you share with your High School teammates?
Evin: I definitely think it is possible. We are all good friends and have played together for a while now. Also some of the players on this team are on my high school team so it’s that much easier to gel with my team when I already have people I know I can rely on there with me.
SWFL Hoops: What do you like to do when you are not playing Basketball?
Evin: Hang out, chill, you know…watch movies.
SWFL Hoops: Where would you play college ball if the decision was all yours?
Evin: University of Florida, or Syracuse
SWFL Hoops: How would you describe playing with some of the players you would usually be playing against?
Evin: I mean its kind of difficult at first. Then you realize how good it is for you and them as you get to know people that you wouldn’t usually know. Also it makes the games that much more competitive next time around.
SWFL Hoops: Who would you say is your favorite NBA player?
Evin: Deron Williams of the Utah Jazz
SWFL Hoops: What would you say is your greatest strength on the court?
Evin: Definitely my shooting, my passing, and my defense. I do not take a play off.
SWFL Hoops: What about on the other end of the stick, the things you need to work on.
Evin: My ball handling and my speed.
SWFL Hoops: What would you say is your best memory of your basketball career so far?
Evin: This year we won our first tournament together, that was pretty special and showed us all that we were good enough to compete on any level. (referring to his Gulf Coast Elite 16-Under traveling team)
SWFL Hoops: Do you have any thing you do to prepare yourself for a big game be it physically or mentally?
Evin: I pray and I listen to music. I stay focused no matter what. And I do a lot of stretching, you can never do too much of that.
SWFL Hoops: Who has been your biggest supporter along the way?
Evin: My father. He taught me everything I know about life and basketball and has been there to help guide me at every level. I cannot thank him enough.
SWFL Hoops: Thank you Evin, good luck this season
