Former Port Charlotte High School shooting guard, 6'3 Kervins Calixte, took a different route to obtaining a spot on a college basketball roster than most and it paid off because earlier this month he committed to play at NCAA Division 1, Texas Christian University.
Instead of giving up on his dream to play at the next level, and with very little college interest, he moved to Texas to attend God's Academy, a prep/high school that has multiple big time division 1 recruits on their roster. The highest profile player on the team is 2010 point guard K.C Ross-Miller who is currently committed to play at the University of Kentucky upon graduation. Calixte found the school thanks to a friend he made that used to play at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL named Waverly Austin who is also now playing for God's Academy. Austin is a 6'10 forward currently receiving interest from schools such as USF, UCF, FAU, Jacksonville, Tulane, TCU, Nevada, and more.
Calixte officially committed on March 6th while also holding an offer from North Texas, and interest from South Florida, Central Florida, and FGCU. The commitment will not make his intent to play with the Horned Frogs official until he signs his letter of intent in the next signing period starting in April. While playing with God's Academy, Calixte had the opportunity to travel around the country to play in tournaments, and play against top notch competition including Avery Bradley, who is currently rated the 3rd best senior shooting guard in the country. In the process he also received some national attention from ESPN basketball recruiting analysts at the National Prep Alliance (NPA) Invitational Tournament in Fort Worth, TX where they mentioned him their write up on the event in this article which prompted them to create a profile for him on their site which you can find HERE.
Kervins is a very hard working young man that deserves anything that comes his way and we look forward to following his progress the rest of the way and will keep you up to date as we hear it.
